This photograph was taken on 20th April 1944 and shows Chief Mechanical Engineer, F.W. Hawksworth, presenting a War Savings League Cup to members at Swindon Works. The National Savings Movement was set up in 1916 to help people save money as well as contributing to the war effort at the same time. During World War II the War Savings Campaign was introduced as part of the Movement specifically to raise funds for the war. Employees of the GWR set up savings groups as part of this campaign, with some depots and offices creating leagues. Swindon Works had a league of 42 member groups and competed for the Director Challenge Cup in their zealous drive to attract new members and increase contributions

12"x10" Modern Frame
10x8 Print in an MDF Wooden Frame with 180 gsm Satin Finish Paper. Glazed using shatter proof thin plexi glass. Frame thickness is 1 inch and depth 0.75 inch. Fluted cardboard backing held with clips. Supplied ready to hang with sawtooth hanger and rubber bumpers. Spot clean with a damp cloth. Packaged foam wrapped in a card.
