Ambulance Shield Presentation, 1928
On 27th April 1928, the Swindon Ambulance Team received the Directors’ Challenge Shield from Viscount Churchill, Chairman of the Great Western Railway. The shield was awarded after winning the final of a series of ambulance competitions. The Swindon team competed against other GWR teams from Newport, Birmingham, Taunton and Chester. They then went on to compete at the inter-railway ambulance competition coming fifth, while the team from London and North Eastern Railway took first place
