Poster Print of Bomb damage to No. 24 shop at Swindon Works in 1942

Bomb damage to No. 24 shop at Swindon Works in 1942
Bomb damage to No. 24 shop at Swindon Works in 1942
Swindon Works should have been a prime target for the German Luftwaffe, but the Works remained relatively unscathed from any air raids on the town. This image taken on 27th July 1942 shows a bomb crater on the edge of No.24 Shop in the Carriage and Wagon Works. This was not a direct hit, but the damaged roof and shattered windows of No.24 Shop illustrates the force of such a bomb explosion. Several workmen are examining the crater, probably thankful the bomb did not land any closer.
