Female Stationmaster, June 1941
This image features a young lady called Freda Jones. During the Second World War she was made a GWR Stationmaster at Pontdolgoch, a station in mid Wales on the Welshpool to Aberystwyth line. It was a one man station and Freda not only greeted trains in and out of the station but issued tickets, collected parcels and kept all the books. Prior to her employment as the stationmaster she was a girl clerk in a warehouse. She lived in Newtown with her parents
